Harness belts

Having a seat harness is a great driver aid. Other than being a safety improvement, being securely belted into the seat allows one to spend less time and energy staying in the seat and concentrate more on driving. It’s not uncommon for drivers who don’t use a harness in an autocross situation to develop bruises on the legs and arms from bracing themselves against the door and dashboard. A driver that uses a harness is able to use both feet and both hands to control the car, a tremendous advantage over the person who needs to leverage the left foot through the floorboard and right knee into the dashboard while using the steering wheel to keep the upper body from flopping around.

Schroth Rallye-4 harness
DOT approved 4 point harness available from schrothracing.com. A benefit of the Schroth Rallye-4 harness is the ease of installation. It requires no drilling or fabrication, mounting into the stock seat belt locations instead. When using different vehicles every week for racing events, the harness was installed at every event and removed that afternoon without much inconvenience. When the back seat has to be used, the tailstrap can be unlatched from the harness and stowed underneath the back seat. The stock seatbelts are not removed or inhibited, for use around town.
