Engine stand

An older made in U.S.A. engine stand holding 3.8 Essex engine.

An engine stand holds a mounted engine to allow convenient access to any area by rotating it. They are a must have for any serious enthusiast and generally range from 30-200 dollars in cost.

Cheaper three wheeled (or even 4) designs from China are not recommended as they often bend from normal usage and usually hold the engine in quite a wobbly manner, even if the engine is only a 4 cylinder inline. The engine stand shown in the picture to the right was aquired for only 30 dollars from a junkyard, built many years ago in U.S.A. with a more liberal use of metal for strength. Similar units are not hard to find for a very low price in classifieds such as craigslist.
