The following shows an example of a carbon fiber overlay performed to a 2001 Prelude center arm rest.
Procedure
- First Get you Carbon fiber Cloth.
- Then cut about 2in bigger the then the piece your working with.
- Then Get your super glue and spread it over the top of the piece and lay the carbon fiber over the top. Make sure its flat and smooth when you do this. Also make sure you super glue the edge an any curves so it looks clean at the end.
- Now that it is wrapped and pretty much stuck on there, get your resin.
- Mix it the way it says in to a plastic dish. Then dump a small amount in the middle of the object. Spread it evenly an slow motion(dont want bubbles) into the carbon. about 1hr before the resin cures an put another coat. If you do only one coat, you can still feel the carbon threw the resin.
- Now wait for it to cure. sand it smooth. Dont sand it to the carbon fiber! If your a little wary about doing this, spray some clear to fill in the small bumps.,then sand, Repeat this process until it smooth.
- Last step is to use some Krylon UV spray, only if dont use UV protect resin. Put a few coats of this spray an wet sand it in between so the resin wont yellow.
This may not be the right or professional way to do carbon fiber overlay, however this is one of the easiest and works great for pieces such as interior parts where the carbon fiber’s strength is not required.
