The car drove exceptionally well, and felt great other than a dying front strut and slipping clutch. Then upon taking a 122 mile trip from Queens NY, as everything was working well, the car was taken to a car wash and the differential decides to let go, all while merely cruising in 3rd gear!

So the transmission had to be removed, the clutch was still original. A new Exedy clutch for Mazda KL engine that was left over from an MX-6 was installed.

A good differential from a friend was sourced, and installed into the transmission. The strut bar was painted black and the engine bay cleaned up as the cruise control was eliminated.

The car remained as it was for quite some time, seeing many different sets of wheels looking for the RIGHT set.

A fresh coat of wrinkle black paint was given to the Mazda valve cover. The front and rear timing covers were eliminated, while the cam gears got a coat of red paint.

The front Tokico Blue struts died, so a new setup with KYB GR2 struts with Dropzone coilovers was used. A spring rate of 300lb was used in the front. The rears were not yet changed due to the availability of the struts so it's still riding on Neuspeed springs in the rear. Also installed 93 EGT directional blade rims!

Thanks to being employed in a performance shop, it was all implemented fairly quickly (using the lift, welder, air tools, etc).

Power steering, A/C and all associated lines were removed, Manual rack soon to come. A black front mount intercooler along with a corksport downpipe was installed.

Exhaust is 2.5" Stainless, No Cat/Res with a Thrush muffler. The muffler was set back quite a bit, the end painted black, and a piece of scrap was cut at a 15 degree angle to simulate a stock tip.

The grill was painted black. New-er headlights were installed thanks to LowetGT, along with new glass fog lights.

It still needs to have the rear suspension finished and a few minor things, but that is the build for now. The car produced 200whp 220wtq @ 12psi vj20. After a couple hours on the dyno at work and playing with timing/VAF while monitoring AFR. The engine had 80,000 at the time of install. As of this writing it has 82,000 miles. There are no issues other than a leaking water pump. The timing belt was swapped along with the timing belt without a problem.

The car runs great, with the exception of some stalling issues which ended up being a bad SSOV. It was replaced with a TurboXS RFL and all the minor driveability issues disappeared. The Exedy KL Clutch is holding up good, but slips under high torque low rpm situations very minimally. Plans to install a Spec stage 3+ with an ACT2600 pressure plate are under way.
