Safety

All of the information here is user submitted, and provided to you AS-IS. MechDB nor the users are responsible for anything that results from the information, whether good or bad. Mistakes can always happen as with anywhere else on the internet. Making them is a human trait and cannot be eliminated, and thus, once again, we hold no responsibility!

A lot of authors write articles beginning with lots of safety warnings. We are not going to be redundant and place this in every article on this website. By using this website you acknowledge that you have the basic understanding of safety and place all responsibility on yourself. Not a complete list, but just a few tips that EVERYONE who uses this website should know:

  • Cas should always be supported on jack stands and not the hydraulic jacks themselves. Lots of mechanics die from having a car fall on them. Hydraulics can fail, sturdy metallic objects in the form of jack stands however, usually do not.
  • Protective eye-wear should be used in any environments with potential flying objects. This includes parts under tension as well as power tool usage such as angle grinders.
  • The battery should sometimes be disconnected when working on the car. We're not going to put this in every article, unless it's absolutely required usch as when changing a starter. Just use your judgment.
  • Do not smoke or use any sources of flame or spark around fuel systems, such as when disconnecting a fuel rail or changing a fuel pump.
  • Watch sparks and heat from power tools as they can sometimes ruin or even ignite parts of the car, especially if fuel or fabrics are around.
  • Be careful with hazardous chemicals such as paint strippers, some degreasers, and etc. Wear gloves and eye protection.
  • Wear a respirator when dealing with fumes, or fine particles in the air. Such a painting, dusting off and cleaning brake systems, sandblasting, etc.
