This article also works similarly on the 3rd gen Ford Escorts.

The throttle body should always be able to open to 90 degrees for optimum performance. If it does not, or if there is any slack in the throttle cable, it should be adjusted with the procedure below.

1. Slide the lock button.

   

2. Rotate the cable stopper.

   

3. Adjust the accelerator cable free play.
   1. Push and hold the spring.
   2. Position the accelerator cable free play to specification.

   

4. Rotate the cable stopper.

   

5. Slide the lock button.
