Ford ZX2 power steering pump replacement

Removal
- Disconnect the radiator overflow tube and position aside.
- Remove the bolt and the A/C hose clamp.
- Unclip the speed control actuator cable from the A/C hose bracket.
- Remove the A/C hose bracket.
- Remove the (A) bolts and the (B) RH lower splash shield.
- Turn the tensioner bolt clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
- Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the power steering pressure hoses from one another.
- Remove the power steering pressure hose bracket.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
- Remove the engine block ground bracket.
- Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.
- Remove the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.
- Remove the four bolts and the power steering pump.
- Discard the power steering pump heat shield.
Installation
- Note: Install a new teflon seal 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fittings before connecting the hoses.
- Note: Make sure that the threads are clean and free of debris before connecting the hoses.
- Position the power steering pump (3A674) and install the four bolts. Install a new power steering pump heat shield.
- Position the power steering hose in the vehicle.
- Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
- Position the engine block ground bracket and install the bolts.
- Connect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Connect the power steering pressure hoses together.
- Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
- Turn the tensioner bolt clockwise and position the accessory drive belt.
- Position the RH lower splash shield and install the bolts.
- Install the power steering pressure hose brackets.
- Position the A/C hose bracket and install the bolt.
- Position the speed control actuator cable into the A/C hose bracket.
- Position the A/C hose clamp and install the bolt.
- Connect the radiator overflow tube.
- Pour in the new power steering fluid and while the vehicle is still jacked up in the air turn the wheel to the left and right until the noise stops. This indicates that the air has been bled out of the power steering lines. Usually this may require turning the wheel 20-50 times.
