Ford Escort slave cylinder rebuild

If the slave cylinder in your Ford Escort or other Mazda trans looks like the following picture below, then it's time for a rebuild.

This how-to will go through the breakdown and reassembly, of the 2nd, 3rd gen Escort, and the ZX2 slave cylinder. Rebuild kits can often be purchased from most auto parts stores for under $20.

Procedure

  1. Take it off the car, 2bolts 12mm and the hard line, lard line is 10mm.

  2. Take the rubber boot off with the rod.

  3. Take the rod off the boot.

  4. Remove the bleeder screw cover.

  5. Remove the bleeder screw.

  6. Remove teh little ball (its under the bleeder screw) DONT LOSE IT!

  7. Take your compressor and blow the piston out. The speed that the piston comes out at is fast, be sure to cover the exit with a rag to avoid any harm.

  8. Remove the spring.

  9. Remove the rubber seal.

  10. Soak the new seal in brake fluid as your cleaning out the cylinder, and the piston.

  11. Place the new seal on the piston.

  12. Put the spring back on the piston and push the piston back in.

  13. Put the ball back in, bleeder screw and put the rod in the new boot. and put the boot back on the slave.
  14. Put the slave back on, bleed and add brake fulid.
