The following coil upgrades are available for EDIS (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System) powered Ford Escorts (91+).

MSD ignition coil: This ignition coil can also be found by searching for v8 mustang ignition coils, which also had the ford EDIS (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System).

Accel ignition coil: Not quite as good as the MSD but better than stock.

Upgrading to Magnecor ignition cables is also a good idea. Magnecor makes some of the best performance wires on the market, without resorting to using overhyped claims as often common with many aftermarket spark plug wire manufacturers. Keep in mind however that upgrading the ignition coil alone won't do much as the spark will still stay the same based on the gap. Upgrading the coil allows one to increase the gap on the spark plug, since the upgraded coils can handle the need to supply enough electricity to jump it better. Since the gap is larger the spark increases and allows for a better burn cycle.
