From Mechanical Database
If the car came equipped with the older aluminum MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) and the intake is being upgraded, the temperature sensor can be modified to be part of the MAF body. A mod that's as simple as drilling a hole that's tight fit for the IAT (intake air temperature) and then smoothing out the IAT so that it fits in. Adding some RTV is not a bad idea, if it's not tight enough by itself.
To go one step further one can also cut off the shield around the sensor itself, since it's not really necessary as there won't be any objects flying through the intake to ruin it. This should help reduce turbulence. The reason this mod is helpful is that intake pipes are often thinner and have less material to work with when it comes to drilling a hole and keeping the IAT sensor in place.
