The 3.8 Ford throttle body can be found in any junkyard for around $ 40. Not as big as the BBK but still a hefty upgrade from the stock restrictive throttle body. The 3.8 Ford TB has a 50 mm bore, which begins as a 55 mm at the end of the TB and ends up as a 50 mm by the butterfly valve.

Some fabrication work will be required because the TPS sensor and the throttle cable mounts are on the opposite sides as the stock Ford Escort throttle body. The easiest solution is usually making a simple bracket for the throttle cable. However some have had success with actually modifying the throttle body to restore the proper locations of the throttle cable and TPS sensor.

The following pictures demonstrate the modification, in which some parts of the TB itself were cut and room was made for the adapter plates. The bigger TB should yield some improvement on the SPI. Supposedly, the SPI in the Focus had a 50MM TB while the same engine in the Escort only has a 44MM.
