The following was written for 2nd gen Ford Escorts with automatic seatbelts, It may work with manual ones as well, however this is unconfirmed.

Procedure

  1. Order an MX-3 gauge pillar from gaugepods.com
  2. Remove the Escort pillar out and set the MX3 pillar pod on top of the escort pillar.

  3. Line the top part up together, not the bottom part!
  4. Use the screws provided to set the pillar in place. In this case the bottom hole was not used, but a new hole had to be made right near the bottom to avoid making it look odd.
  5. Once they're joined together, flip the pillar over and you will see that the edges of the MX3 pillar overlap the escort one. Here is where you take your dremmel or cutting tool of your choice and cut the edges off to make them line up with the escort pillar. You will also need to cut about an inch off the escort pillar where the autobelt slides in to.

  6. After the edges are cut take the pillars apart and decide where at the bottom you are going to cut off.

  7. After you have cut it all up grab a file and shave the edges so that they look nice.
  8. Screw them back together, flip over the pillar, and drill 3 big holes where the wires and tubes from your gauges will go.

  9. You will see the infamous part where on all gauge pillars it bubbles apart from the original pillar. This can be fixed by adding some automotive goop or other epoxy in the edges and clamping it down for a day until it dries.
