The Esslinger ZX2 was a FWD drag car built in northern California, to compete in NIRA (National Import Racing Association) Pro-Stock class. NIRA rules for the class allow a maximum displacement of 2700cc. At first the Esslinger ZX2 supposedly had a ZX2 head but then it was switched to a Ford Focus head, for more cam options. Due to all the modifications it had to be pushed to the line, started, do a quick burnout and go, and then get shut off once crossing the line to prevent overheating. Achieving 10.9 1/4 mi with an all motor setup and no Nitrous or FI, the car was on track to even better results until Ford cut funding because they wanted to focus on the Focus. The car has since been cut in half and put in storage, then later purchased by another owner who is currently rebuilding it.
